Grain Storage in the Malting Plant
Until it is processed into malt, fresh barley is stored in storage tanks up to 65 ft (20 m) tall. Freshly kilned malt is suitable for brewing after being stored in silos for several weeks. Filling the silo causes strong dust generation. The product surface is continuously changing because of vessel filling and emptying.
Level Measurement with the VEGAFLEX 62
The guided microwave measuring principle is independent of product characteristics, such as humidity, dust, or noise generation and the shape of the product surface. Easy adjustment without vessel filling is the big advantage of using guided microwave technology. A discharge force of 3 tons on the cable is no problem for VEGAFLEX 62. Even product adhesion does not affect the measuring accuracy. The sensor also meets the requirements of Dust Ex Zone 20 1/2D.
Level Detection with the VEGAVIB 61
Besides continuous level measurement in grain silos, blockage and low level alarm systems are also common. Tuning fork switches are often used for such alarm systems. However, there is a risk of grain getting stuck in the fork and causing faulty switching.
The VEGAVIB 61 vibrating level switch is the ideal solution for detecting the maximum and minimum volume in the silo. The single rod switch principle assures high reliability, because there is no place where the product can adhere to the rod – faulty switching is thus precluded.
Level Detection with the VEGAVIB 63
The VEGAVIB 63 offers individual switching point adaptation via a tube extension up to 6 m (19.7 ft).
The Brew House – Center Stage of the Brewery
During the brewing process there is usually a thick foam layer in the vessel. For this reason, the recommended method is the implementation of two pressure transmitters – one for the superimposed vessel head pressure and the other for the total pressure at the bottom of the vessel. The level is precisely determined from the difference of the two pressures. Hygienic process fittings are mandatory. These hygienic fittings must be front-flush and gap-free to prevent product remnants or impurities from collecting and to enable CIP cleaning.
Level Measurement with the VEGABAR 64
The VEGABAR 64 is particularly suitable for applications in the brew house. The sensor is temperature and overload resistant, CIP capable, linear and hysteresis-free. Measurement is not affected by foam generation. Compared with other materials, only sapphire ceramic can guarantee a completely gap-free surface. The VEGABAR 64 is protected against condensation and moisture ingress through a special housing design with protection class IP 66, IP 68 and IP 69K. The VEGABAR 64 meets all requirements of the FDA, 3A and EHEDG.
