Special Waste - A "Cocktail" of Chemicals
Lacquers, paints and thinners, among other things, as well as acids, alkalis and emulsions are treated as special waste. Many of these are by-products from applications in the chemical industry, in metal processing and in vehicle construction. In special waste treatment, substances that impact the environment are converted to be compatible with the environment, such as being disposed of in waste repositories. Level measurement, such as in storage tanks and receiving vessels, ensures automatic, monitored operation of the facility and thereby protects human life and the environment.
Level Measurement in Storage Tanks with the VEGAPULS 62
Lacquers, paints and thinners are stored in tanks up to 50 ft (15 m) high. These substances require no pre-treatment and are fed directly to incinerators via smaller day tanks. Agitators inside the tanks prevent fibrous materials and color pigments from clumping and settling on the bottom. The VEGAPULS 62 radar sensor is the ideal solution here for level measurement. The radar measurement is unaffected by the ambient conditions, such as strong vapor emission of the waste, and delivers accurate measuring results even when the agitators are in motion.
Level Detection in the Receiving Tanks with the VEGACAP 64
Capacitive compact level switches, being completely unaffected by buildup, have proven to be a good solution for level detection of lacquers and paints. For that reason, the VEGACAP 64 is applied as dry run protection for the agitators and discharge pumps.
Level Measurement in the Receiving Vessels with the VEGAPULS 63
The receiving vessels are sunk into the ground and are composed of double-walled, plastic-coated steel tanks. Because the delivered acids, alkalis and emulsions have very different properties, the level measurement should be made with non-contacting methods. VEGAPULS 63 radar sensors work reliably under difficult measuring conditions, such as steam, vapors, extreme temperature fluctuation and surface agitation from agitators. Corrosive media, as well as salt deposits caused by neutralization, are no problem for the buildup-free, flat antenna of top-grade TFM-PTFE plastic.
Maximum Signal with the VEGACAP 63
The maximum signal from the fully PTFE-insulated capacitive level switch VEGACAP 63 stops the filling process and prevents overfill.
Leakage Detection with the VEGASWING 63 and the VEGATOR 636 Ex
A leakage warning system is an absolute requirement for double-walled vessels holding water-contaminated liquids. The ECTFE-coated vibrating level switch VEGASWING 63 is perfect for this application. In conjunction with the compatible signal conditioning instrument VEGATOR 636 Ex, it fulfills the requirements of SIL 2. The mandatory function test is carried out simply by pressing a key on the signal conditioning instrument.
